Yesterday RHP Brendan Donnelly was activated in Kinston. He had been pitching in the GCL prior to the activation and pitched in three games going 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA in three appearances (2.2 innings).

Infielder Niuman Romero was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending 7/13. For the week he hit .444 (12-27), 8 R, 6 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 3 BB, 2 SO, 0 SB, 1.263 SLG. Romero currently has a 20-game hitting streak.

Kinston falls 10-2

Carolina League Player of the Week Niuman Romero extended his Carolina League-leading hit streak to 20 games, but the Kinston Indians dropped their second game in a row, 10-2 to Winston-Salem. The K-Tribe and Warthogs end up splitting their four-game series.

Winston-Salem's bats were awake early as the Warthogs scored multiple runs in the first inning for the second straight day, plating three off of K-Tribe starter Sung-Wei Tseng.

After another Warthogs run in the third, the K-Tribe bats responded to load the bases with one out in the third inning. Nick Weglarz hit an RBI single driving in Brian Juhl for the first Kinston run, but a double play would end the inning and get the Warthogs out of trouble. Jason Denham hit his second home run of the series in the seventh inning, a solo shot to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Warthogs put the game out of reach with six runs in the ninth inning.

Tseng gave up three runs in three innings, and the K-Tribe bullpen provided five scoreless innings of relief. Brendan Donnelly made a Major League rehab appearance throwing a scoreless fourth inning. Matt Meyer threw two scoreless innings of work, his longest outing of the season. Neil Wagner threw a scoreless seventh and eighth, before giving up four runs in the ninth.

The Indians have Wednesday off, but open up a three-game set on Thursday against the Frederick Keys at Historic Grainger Stadium. Kinston will have a Thirsty Thursday matchup, fireworks on Friday night, and Grady Sizemore T-shirt night on Saturday evening. All three games start at 7:00 PM, with Kinston just one game out of first place for the final playoff spot in the Carolina League Southern Division. Hector Rondon (7-4) will make his first start Thursday night since coming back from his scoreless inning in the MLB Futures Game at Yankee Stadium Sunday.

In Other Games...

- Buffalo and Akron are on their All-Star break. Lake County and Mahoning Valley had no games scheduled. The GCL Indians were rained out.
