Gallas comes through again, Mudcats win 5-2
Wilmington, DE – For the second straight game, Anthony Gallas had the big hit as the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-2 to claim their first road series since winning three of four at Lynchburg, April 23-26.
Carolina (19-18, 51-56) finished the road trip 2-5. Wilmington drops to 18-18 in the second half, 47-59 overall.
Joseph Colon (1-2) earned his first win with the Mudcats by tossing five innings. The right-hander held the Blue Rocks to one run on three hits. He walked four and struck out five. Jason Adam (3-11) allowed four runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings for Wilmington.
The Blue Rocks mounted one last comeback in the ninth, as Brett Eibner drove in a run with a clean single to left field. The knock put two runners on base, and cut the deficit to three, before Cole Cook entered the game. Cook retired one hitter on a ground ball force at second to record his third save.
With the game squared 1-1 in the fifth, Gallas stepped to the plate with runners at first and second. With two strikes, he cracked a double off the wall in deep left field to score both men for a 3-1 lead. Ronny Rodriguez followed immediately with a single to center, scoring Gallas for a 4-1 edge.
Giovanny Urshela paced the Mudcats’ offense with a pair of hits, including a double in the third inning that brought in the first run of the game. Tony Wolters hit into a sacrifice-fly to right field for the Mudcats’ final run.
The Mudcats return home July 31 to host Myrtle Beach for three games.
