Game Recap 5/15: Smit's Career Night Leads Captains To Win
Down by a run, Jason Smit hit a 2-run homerun to leftfield capping off a four run eighth inning as the Captains came from behind to defeat the TinCaps 8-6 on Saturday afternoon. Smit finished with a career high four RBI in the win.
Fort Wayne scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Danny Payne led things off with a double, and eventually scored on a Nate Frieman RBI ground out.
The Captains took the lead in the second, following a one out walk to Roberto Perez and a double by Chun Chen putting runners on second and third. The next hitter, Smit singled in both runners and the Lake County led 2-1.
The Captains added to the lead in third, Casey Frawley tripled and scored on a Jeremie Tice RBI double, making it 3-1.
Fort Wayne closed the gap in the bottom of the third when Freiman drove in his second run on sacrifice fly to right scoring Payne.
The TinCaps took the lead in the fourth, with five consecutive singles. Payne drove in a run, and Everett Williams drove in a pair of runs on his base hit to make 5-3.
Wande Olabisi singled for the third for the third time Saturday in the fifth inning, scoring Jon Alia giving Fort Wayne a 6-3 edge.
