Kinston Gives Lead Up in the Ninth, Wins with a Walk-off in the 10th

The Kinston Indians gave up eight runs in four innings, but Alex Castillo bailed them out with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th to win it for the K-Tribe.

The Indians had a pair of three-run innings in the first and third and capped off the scoring with solo home runs from Beau Mills and Jared Goedert in the fourth. The K-Tribe added a run off an error in the fifth, and had a 9-1 lead behind a five-inning pitching performance from Carlton Smith.

The Avalanche stormed back with a Justin Tellam two-run triple in the sixth, and he scored a sacrifice fly for a three-run sixth. Tim Torres hit a two-run homer in the seventh, and Tellam went yard for a solo shot in the eighth. Luis Perdomo gave up a pair of bases loaded walks to tie things in the ninth.

Castillo’s game-winning blast came with one out in the 10th to send the K-Tribe to their second series win in a row, and improve their record against Salem to 8-4.

The Indians have been in first place since the second half started, winning five of their first six games out of the gate. They take a break for the Carolina/California League All-Star Game, and send Niuman Romero, Josh Tomlin, and Perdomo to Myrtle Beach for the contest. They start a three-game set on Thursday night against Frederick. First game is at 7:00 PM.
