Gomes reactivated, Giambi placed on DL
The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have activated catcher Yan Gomes from the Paternity List and placed designated hitter Jason Giambi (right calf strain) on the 15-day Disabled List, retroactive to May 4.
Gomes missed the last two games for the birth of his child but is back in the lineup on Monday night and batting seventh against the Minnesota Twins in Progressive Field at 7:05PM ET.
Giambi was removed from Saturday’s game against the White Sox in the 6th inning and begins his second stay on the DL this season. He is 0-for-10 at the plate in four games with the Indians. Georgre Kottaras who was called up over the weekend when Gomes was placed on the paternity list, remains with the team and will probably continue to serve a bench role with the club for the time being.
