After winning five straight, the Captains fell to the Hawks 6-2 on Wednesday. The victory included three home runs from the 39-17 Hawks to dominate the Captains, bringing them to 20-35 on the season.

The Captains started out with the early 1-0 lead in the third inning, but with the three homers, the Hawks were ahead 5-1 going into the seventh. The Captains attempted to make a comeback with back-to-back doubles from infielder Erik Gonzalez and outfielder Logan Vick to bring Gonzalez home.

The Captains have allowed 42 home runs on the season.

Left-hander Ryan Merritt started for the Captains and Wednesday’s loss brought Merritt to 3-5 on season starts. He allowed eight hits and five earned runs in his six and two thirds innings of play.

The Captains continue their four game series against the Hawks with a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 10:35am. After the series concludes in South Bend, the Captains will return to Ohio on Sunday
