Bowling Green, KY – The Lake County Captains fell to the Bowling Green Hot Rods 10-2 in their final game of the 2013 season on Monday afternoon.

The Hot Rods scored in four consecutive innings off of Captains starter Juan Santana. Their first run occurred in the form of a home run by second baseman Leonardo Reginatto.

In the second inning, centerfielder Joey Rickard led off with a single and advanced to third during a steal attempt that led to a throwing error by catcher Eric Haase. Rickard scored on a double by third baseman Marty Gantt, giving the Hot Rods the 2-0 lead.

In familiar fashion, Reginatto singled in the third inning and advanced to third on another throwing error by Haase. Rickard singled to left to score Reginatto for the Hot Rods’ third run of the game.

The home team blew the door open in the fourth inning as they added three. Right fielder Ryan Dunn sent his fourth home run of the season over the left field wall for a solo shot before catcher Geoff Rowan singled to left. Rowan was retired on a force play that granted shortstop Brandon Martin first, and third baseman Tyler Goeddel was plunked by a pitch. The Hot Rods pulled off a double steal that paid off as Reginatto singled to plate both runners for the 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile, designated hitter Leonardo Castillo put the Captains on the board in the third inning as he homered to left for his sixth of the year off of Hot Rods’ starter Bruedlin Suero.

Santana’s Captains debut ended in the fifth as he was replaced with reliever Anderson Polanco, ending Santana’s line at four innings pitched, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and three strikeouts.

A fielding error in the sixth inning by Captains’ third baseman Joe Sever led to two more Bowling Green runs as Martin hit his seventh home run of the season.

The final two Hot Rods’ runs touched home in the eighth on reliever Jack Wagoner. Goeddel commenced the inning with a solo home run to left and a pair of back-to-back singles put an end to Wagoner’s outing as he was replaced with Cody Penny. The Hot Rods loaded the bases as another error by Sever allowed Rickard to reach and a sacrifice fly brought home Bowling Green’s 10th run of the afternoon.

The Captains crafted one more offensive attempt in the ninth inning as Haase doubled and scored on a double by second baseman Zack MacPhee, but that was all the Captains could manage as the game and their season ended in the 10-2 loss.

Lake County ends the 2013 season with a 54-83 overall record. They finished in sixth place within the Eastern Division of the Midwest League, 13 games out of first place.
