IBI Update: What's on tap with the IBI in 2013

Just a few quick notes on some things with the IBI.

First off, as noted last week, the new 2013 Indians Baseball Insider Top 100 Prospects and More book is now available and can be purchased online.  I noted last week that I am unable to take direct orders at this time because of how close my trip to Arizona is, but I am starting to take personal orders now. If you are interested in buying a signed copy from me directly, please contact me using the site email form and I will add you to the list. Books bought through me will only be $25 (includes priority shipping), though again, I will not be able to send them out in the mail until after March 27th once I am home.

Speaking of Arizona, I head out on Saturday and will be out there for almost two weeks. I will be at the fields almost every day all day from 8am until 5pm watching tons of minor league action, talking to players, coaches and others, and also mixing in some big league stuff that I am going to be doing for Fox Sports Ohio. Starting on Monday, I will have a daily notebook of the happenings in minor league camp every day next week, plus will have some other features throughout the end of camp with player articles and minor league game summaries.  Spring training means 17-18 hour days for me watching and taking notes all day and then writing all evening and night....and then doing it all again the next day, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

The prospect countdown and the trip to Arizona are always the official kickoff to the new season of coverage here at the IBI, and this year there will be even more coverage of all the teams from rookie ball to Cleveland. We will have reporters at every city following every team from the rookie summer league team in Arizona to Cleveland, and will have all kinds of daily and weekly site features all throughout the season.

Also, our popular online radio show Smoke Signals will return on March 30th for a special edition with myself, Jim Pete and Steve Orbanek will broadcast live from Erie, PA. It will be a special kickoff edition for the show which will return on Tuesday nights. Other shows like The Inside Pitch and the Cleveland Sports Insider will return soon as well.

We also have lots of new site upgrades coming. The popular scoreboard feature will return once the season starts, and coming soon will be player pages that house everything from bio information to stats to scouting reports to links to articles written about them on the site. I'm very excited for this addition and it will be a fantastic tool to follow every player in the system from the minors to the big leagues.  Another new feature being worked on is a chat feature which will hopefully be available before the season starts where we can talk real time every night about the Indians and even some minor league action.  More features will continue to be added over the course of the year.

Also, as a quick note, all of the popular charts have been updated on the site. The remaining options chart, depth chart, payroll chart, and 2014-2017 Rule 5 Draft eligibility chart have all been updated in the past few days and are current.

Last, I have received a few emails from people asking why they can't login and view some of the susbcription pieces, only for the person to realize that their account has expired. Please note, due to a system upgrade made on February 1st there are no reminder notices sent on expiring subscriptions purchased prior to that date. For any subscription purchased after February 1st there will be an email note sent when a subscripton is expiring and/or has been renewed. So if you are unable to view subscription articles and are logged in, chances are you need to make a payment to renew.

Thanks for the continued support and here is to a successful and fun season following the Indians at every level in 2013!

Tony, I agree about the great coverage in the IBI. I am excited that you are doing Smoke Signals from Erie on March 30th. Is there any chance that there could be a live audience for the show?

Agree 100% Devin. Not much happens in the organization that the people at IBI are not aware of. Have followed the Indians for the better part of 60 years, and the info provided on the farm system is second to none. Keep up the great work !!!!

Man, no other fans have it this good, Tony. I know every team has blogs (as the Indians have others besides IBI), but this may as well be the only site I go to for Indians info -- it's just that good. When you love a team like the Indians, you HAVE to know about the minor league system, and that has been the focus from the days of IPI to the current IBI. From rookie ball to the majors, game summaries, editorials, player features, etc, etc... All I can say is kudos for making your passion your living, and I am continually impressed with how much you pour into this site. From a die-hard Indians fan, thanks for giving me all the daily content I crave and then some! Have fun in AZ!
