Indians acquire Chris Dickerson from Pirates

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have acquired outfielder Chris Dickerson from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named or cash and selected his contract from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers roster. To make room on the 40-man roster they have designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment.

Dickerson, 32, has appeared in 314 Major League games over six seasons from 2008-13 with four different teams since debuting with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008 (was Cincinnati’s’ 16th round pick in 2003 out of Nevada-Reno). He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization this past January and has spent the entire season to date with the Indianapolis Indians hitting .309 (73-236) with 15 2B, 2 2B, 7HR, 30 RBI and 12 steals in 65 games (.407/.479/.886). He currently ranks 3rd in the International League in on-base pct (.407), 5th in OPS (.886) and 8th in batting average (.309).

Dickerson will be in uniform on Monday night and start in left field. when the Indians take on the Yankees at Progressive Field at 7:05 PM ET.
