BALTIMORE, MD - The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco to Triple-A Columbus and recalled left-handed pitcher T.J. House from Columbus.

House, 23, has gone a combined 3-8 with a 4.83 ERA in 15 starts between Double-A Akron and Columbus this year (87.2 IP, 93 H, 47 ER, 11 HR, 33 BB, 75 K).  The 75 strikeouts are second most among Indians minor league pitchers in 2013.  Over his last eight starts at Triple-A, his ERA is 4.56 (49.1 IP, 51 H, 25 ER) and he is currently tied for 2nd in the International League with two complete games.

House (#40) will be making his debut at the Major League level after spending the last five seasons since 2009 in the Player Development system. He was originally Cleveland’s 16th round selection (501st overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Carrasco is 0-3 with a 7.78 ERA in four starts over two stints with Cleveland this season. He is still eligible to be recalled on June 26th for the doubleheader as the 10-day rule does not apply for the 26th man used in the new doubleheader rule.

The doubleheader with the White Sox is on Friday the 28th. So Carrasco will be on normal rest. Indians have an off day on July the Indians can bring Carrasco up for the 28th (no 10-day rule applies) and callup Bauer for the game.....and then send both Bauer and Carrasco down and not need a 5th starter again until Saturday July 6th, and at that point the Indians can call Carrasco back up. Actually a smart move maximizing the roster if you ask me and getting an extra arm up.

Sometimes you have to sleep on it and what was confusing becomes clear. Well, I just peed on it.... and it was like a light went on. House has been nails on left-handed hitters- they're hitting a buck something off him in 87 innings. If he can continue that here- which is a big question- Hill or Hagadone go byebye and Carrasco comes back. But he probably doesn't come back on the 26th doubleheader because that's 3 days and he threw close to 100 pitches yesterday. I would run him out there on 3 days, but I doubt Francona would so that means he is on the loose another 10 days. This kid has a big league arm and he's obviously sensitive- if I'm Francona I get him up here, keep him up here, and stay on top of him otherwise he'll be somewhere else next year.

This is basically a paperwork move. It makes sense from a different standpoint: What is Carlos doing until Friday - side work or resting. House can actually take the mound in a few games before then. Carlos will get the 26 man call for Friday and start a game. The question becomes, who gets moved out of the bullpen to add someone else (Bauer I assume) to start the other game.

Wow, this is a shocker to me. You have a guy that has the strongest arm on the team and electric stuff coming back healthy and faster than ever after 14 months on the DL. He's had all kinds of interruptions, he finally has a chance to get in a groove, and now you send him back to Columbus for a guy who was an average pitcher in Double A last year who you plan on using as a reliever even though he has been a starter his entire career. Now you have 3 crappy LH relievers to choose from Hill, Hagadone, and House, los tres H's and the H stands for horrible. You need a new bong Antonetti.

Probably no surprise, but per Paul Hoynes the Tribe will use TJ House out of the bullpen.
