The Cleveland Indians today announced they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Kyle Crockett from Double-A Akron and have optioned right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar to Triple-A Columbus.

Crockett, 22, has compiled an ERA of 0.57 and 6 saves in 15 relief appearances for Akron this season (15.2 IP, 8 H, 1R/ER, 3 BB, 17K, .145AVG). He is currently tied for 5th in the Eastern League in saves and has limited left-handed Eastern League batters to a .118 (2-for-17) average against. All eight hits allowed this season have been singles.

The Poquoson, Virginia native was Cleveland’s fourth round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft (111th overall) out of the University of Virginia and is the first member of the 2013 draft class to reach the Major Leagues. He owns a two-year professional ERA of 0.45 in 36 relief appearances (40.1 IP, 24 H, 3 R/2ER, 8 BB, 49 K, 1.8 BB/9, 10.9 K/9).

Salazar has gone 1-4 with a 5.53 ERA in eight starts thus far in 2014 (40.2 IP, 49 H, 25 ER, 8 HR, 17 BB, 47 K). The Indians will recall right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer on Tuesday when Salazar's next turn in the rotation comes up.

Also, a pitcher will likely be sent down to make room for Bauer, though that pitcher is unknown at this time. With Crockett it would appear not to be a decision that is of the short term variety which could mean Josh Outman and his 7.4 BB/9 or even John Axford and his 8.3 BB/9 could be in trouble. Both have options remaining and can easily be optioned to Triple-A Columbus if needed.

I just watched the Indians/A's game tonight with Jesse A playing 1B. Jesse dropped a double play ball which would have ended the inning. Terry replaced him. Our line-up is so messed up that the only time we score any runs it comes from the bottom half. Everyone knows that the batters 1 thru 4 will get more chances to hit, then the bottom of the order. Mike B no bunts and no steal. We had Lonnie setting on bench, hitting .348 and let Raminez, who is 2 for 20 pinch hit. Struck out on three pitches and no attempt to bunt to use his speed. We gave up tonight, most of the batters when we were behind 6 to 2 were swinging at first pitch to get game over. Where is the Cleveland pride and never give up attitude??? Even Michael Aviles swung at the first pitch with two runners on base on pitcher he had never seem. Wouldn't it be better to see a couple of pitches fro this pitcher.

Now my line-up and maybe Terry will just look at.
Raminez - 2b, Brantley -cf, Lonnie - 3d, Murphy- rf, Gomes - c, Carrera - ss, Rayburn - lf, Santana - 1b, Swisher - dh
*Have Raminez bunting and stealing bases - use your assets.

Terry please don't forget about 5rbi for Murphy and Lonnie in one game.

I think that Outman will be designated out since no need to have three left handed pitchers in pen. Crockett and Mark will make a good duo. Now with Trevor coming up, after Danny get straight in the minors, Axford will be gone. It a shame to waste that signing money for Outman and Axford. with the way they have pitched this year. We might have been able to sign Kazmir or Smith. Good article. Go Tribe turn it around Terry.

Outman is out of options. Confirmed this today. He was previously thought to have one remaining but actually was optioned out for 26 days early last season which did not fall under the 20-day rule.

Why would you have to DFA Outman if he has options?

Mark Lowe is not really in the Major League mix right now.

Also, it is official that Bauer is coming up. Who that pitcher who goes down remains to be seen....I think these next four nights will give us some direction as to who it will be between Lee being optioned or even Axford optioned, or DFAing Carrasco or Outman. I believe Crockett is here for the long haul. You don't waste adding a guy to the roster to just call him up for four days. If that is the case, then you just bring up Hagadone/Barnes.

Danny pitched pretty well last night. He's used to blowing guys away all the time with the 96-97; perhaps he's accustomed to the level of hitting that he sees everyday in batting practice in Cleveland. Unfortunately, there are a lot of really good hitters in the majors, not so many on the Indians roster. He'll be ok. Needs to come inside more with the heater and work low and away with the slider to keep the Encarnicions from sitting dead red and getting extended. I do think they are reading some of his pitches at the release point- he and Callaway have to work on that. It will be nice to see what Crockett can do at this level. To me he is the kind of pitcher that will do well wherever, age notwithstanding. Sonny Gray is another one of those kids and we will unfortunately have to face him tonight. He was still on the board BTW in 2011 when Lindor who I believe will be next up was taken. So was George Springer, I think Cabrera will be gone before the trading deadline, and possibly Swisher and Bourn if they can get somebody to take the contracts. Both these guys have it in them to help somebody that is already a contender get over the top, but I do not think they are everyday players any more, certainly not guys to start rebuilding around. Walter you say the wheels are turning at Carnegie and Ontario. I hope they're turning and not falling off.

Well, we will need a starting pitcher soon (regardless of how Bauer does when he's called up), since injuries will happen and also because McAlister will probably be in the same Columbus rotation as Salazar if he has another start like the last couple.

Is it official that Bauer is coming up Tuesday? Cause if it is, then how could you not send a pitcher down?! Can't go with a 9-man pen and 2-man bench can you?

Walter, there could always be something coming down the pipes, still early but a possibility. Outman is alright, nothing special...I'd rather have seen them sign Oliver Perez and trade Stubbs for a prospect but that's hindsight.

Mark Lowe has been closing games down in Columbus. Does he become an option for the bullpen? Nice to see Crockett get the call up. If he has the same results as he has had since being drafted last year Outman will be out of job in bullpen.

Withe wheels turning at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario is there possible trades on the horizon?
