The Cleveland Indians today announced they have recalled right-handed pitcher Zach McAllister from Triple-A Columbus and optioned right-handed reliever Vinnie Pestano to Columbus.

McAllister, 26, has split the 2014 season between Cleveland and AAA Columbus.  He began the year in the Cleveland rotation where he went 3-4 with a 5.89 ERA in 10 starts (47.1IP, 53H, 34R/31ER, 19BB, 43K) before being placed on the 15-day DL on May 22 with lower back inflammation and later optioned to AAA Columbus on June 20. With the Clippers he went 5-0 with a 2.23 ERA in 6 starts (36.1IP, 35H, 9R/ER, 7BB, 34K). He is making his first Major League start since May 21 vs. Chicago-AL today.

Pestano has been optioned out for the second time after a brief recall to Cleveland the past two weeks. With right-hander Austin Adams getting the promotion on Friday the Indians clearly have decided that Adams can help them more right now at the Major League level.
