The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Josh Tomlin from Triple-A Columbus and have designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment.

Tomlin, 29, opened the 2014 in AAA Columbus where he has gone 2-1 with a 2.06 ERA in 5 starts (35.0IP, 22H, 8R/ER, 9BB, 28K, .185AVG).  He ended his run with the Clippers with 20.0 consecutive scoreless innings, including a 9.0-inning, 3-hit shutout (0BB, 10K) in his last start at Durham on May 1. He currently sports the 10th-lowest ERA in the International League and is 6th in innings pitched. Josh went 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA in 5 spring games (3GS, 20.1IP, 20H, 8R/ER) before being optioned to Columbus on March 26.

Kottaras, 30, was recalled from Columbus on Saturday and appeared in one game for Cleveland, going 2-for-3 with 2 home runs and a walk on Sunday vs. Chicago-AL to become the first player in Indians franchise history to homer in his first 2 plate appearances with the club.  He signed with Cleveland on April 3 as a Minor League free agent and has appeared in 9 games thus far for the Clippers (2-25, .080).

Very sad to see Kottaras go...hope he clears waivers and accepts his assignment but wouldn't shock me if he walked...
