The Indians today announced that they have purchased the contracts of infielder Mark Grudzielanek and outfielder Austin Kearns from Triple-A Columbus and placed both infielder Russell Branyan (lower back rehab) and right-handed closer Kerry Wood (strained right lat) on the 15-day Major League disabled list retroactive to March 26th.

During spring training Kearns batted .300 (15-50) with 15 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBI in 21 games while Grudzielanek hit .303 (10-33) with 6 runs scored, 5 doubles and 7RBI in 12 games.  Branyan did not play in an official spring contest though began playing in minor league spring games on March 31st. Wood made two Cactus League appearances going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (2.0IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K) before sustaining his injury.

In addition, the Indians designated infielder Anderson Hernandez and catcher Wyatt Toregas for assignment to allow room for Kearns and Grudzielanek on the 40-man roster.  The Indians' 25-man roster is at 25 and the 40-man roster stands at 40.
