The Indians today signed free agent right-handed pitcher Kyle Davies to a minor league contract. He will report to early minor league camp in Goodyear, AZ next week.

Davies, 30, split the 2013 season in the Minnesota Twins organization going a combined 4-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 12 starts (58.0 IP, 60 H, 16 BB, 47 K).  He owns a career Major League record of 43-65 with a 5.59 ERA in 151 games/144 starts (768.0 IP, 876 H, 477 ER, 545 K) over seven Major League seasons with Atlanta (2005-07) and Kansas City (2007-11).

Davies has not piched at the Major League level since 2011. He ad right shoulder surgery in 2012 and missed the 2012 season entirely and missed the first two months of last season rehabbing. He is in the mix for a rotation spot this spring at Triple-A Columbus.

I think if Kyle signing could be a good thing. He is only 30 years old and if he has recovered from right shoulder surgery might to able to help. His 47k is good but the 16BB in 58 innings must mean he is still working on control. The tribe is making smart moves with free agents and giving them a chance to show if they belong. Go Tribe!!!!!
