Indians sign Shane and Whitehouse
The Cleveland Indians have officially signed two more players from the 2013 Draft to minor league contracts on Friday as they announced the signing of 6th round pick right-handed pitcher Casey Shane and 19th round pick left-handed pitcher Matthew Whitehouse.
Shane is the highest profile signing to date and is a prep pitcher who had a committment to Texas A&M but opted to sign with the Indians. He is a sinkerballer who sits in the low 90s and has some interesting secondary stuff and a projectable frame, and should open the season at rookie level Arizona. Whitehouse missed some time due to injury but has a promising upper 80s fastball and cutter mix. If he is healthy, he should open the season at short season Single-A Mahoning Valley.
