The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have placed right-handed pitcher Corey Kluber on the 15-day Disabled List with a right long finger sprain and have recalled right-handed pitcher Matt Langwell from Triple-A Columbus.

Kluber suffered the injury Monday night in Cleveland’s 4-2 loss to Detroit in Progressive Field. So far this season Corey is 7-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 21 games/19 starts (122.0IP, 120H, 48ER, 26BB, 116K). It is his first career stint on the disabled list.

Langwell has split the 2013 season between Columbus and Cleveland and is beginning his third stint with the Indians.  With the Indians he is 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA in 5 relief appearances over two stints in June (5.1IP, 5H, 3R/ER, 2BB, 6K, HR) and picked up his first Major League win on June 28 at Chicago-AL (G2).  At Columbus he has gone 3-3 with 2 saves and a 2.64 ERA in 34 games/1GS (47.2IP, 46H, 14R/ER, 19BB, 40K, .254AVG) and over his last 11 games since July 3 he owns an ERA of 1.38 (13.0IP, 12H, 2ER).  At Triple-A right-handed hitters are batting .178 (19-107) and overall batters are hitting .205 (18-88) with runners on base.

Does this injury create a vacancy in the rotation that Dice K might be likely to fill? Since Salazar is innings limited and Bauer and Carrasco have been struggling while Dice K has seemingly turned a corner in Columbus, could he be a likely candidate to at least get a shot? Carrasco seems like the only other option to me unless they look for a waiver wire pick up.
