Lake County Captains beat Bowling Green Hot Rods, 5-4

(Bowling Green, KY)- Ben Heller slammed the door with a one-two-three ninth inning and the Captains held on for a 5-4 win over the Hot Rods. Heller has two saves on the season and three wins. The victory for the Captains improved their road record to 5-21.

Bowling Green (22-26) scored first. In the bottom of the fifth inning,Juniel Querecuto doubled off the right field wall to lead off the inning.  A fly ball moved him to third base and a single by Yoel Araujo scored Querecuto. The Hot Rods led 1-0.

Lake County (17-32) took the lead in the top of the seventh inning. The Captains were getting no hit through six innings. Lake County knocked six hits in the seventh inning and scored five runs. In the inning, the Captains sent ten men to the plated and benefitted from two Hot Rod errors in the frame. The score was 5-1 Captains headed to the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bowling Green got three runs back. The hot Rods batted around and used four hits and two walks to score the three. Pat Blair had a two run single which fueled the inning. The score was 5-4 headed to the eighth inning.

RHP Adam Plutko (2-1) started for Lake County and pitched six and one third innings. Plutko allowed two earned runs on six hits. Plutko walked one and fanned eight. Alexis Parades pitched one third of an inning and allowed two runs, one was earned on three hits. He walked one and struck out one. Trevor Frank pitched one and one third scoreless innings. Frank struck out two. 

RHP Jake Faria (3-2) started for Bowling Green. Faria pitched six and one third innings and allowed five hits, five earned runs, one walk and six strikeouts.  Brad Schriber pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed two hits while fanning three. Colton Revis pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Bowling Green.

The Captains will return home to Eastlake, OH on Sunday to commence a six-game home stand. The Great Lakes Loons are in town for the opening series. The Captains will start RHP Mitch Brown (0-6, 5.40) and the Loons will counter with RHP Scott Barlow (1-0, 2.96). First Pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PMfrom Classic Park. 

Sunday’s game will be a Family Fun Sunday; which will include a pre-game player autograph session, concourse entertainment and activities and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game.
