Lake County Captains fall short against Great Lakes Loons, 1-0

EASTLAKE, Ohio – The Lake County Captains (17-34) only mustered four hits against the Great Lakes Loons (25-26) Monday afternoon as they fell in a 1-0 pitchers duel to the Loons.

With the goose egg, the Captains have been shutout eight times this season.

The Captains’ starter, Robbie Aviles, threw six shutout innings for the second time in the past 10 days. On May 16, Aviles threw six scoreless innings without allowing a hit. On Monday, he allowed two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Aviles now has a 1.45 ERA through 10 appearances.

On the opposite side, Victor Arano scattered three hits and one walk across five innings of work for the Loons. He fanned three Captains before making way for Greg Harris in the sixth.

The Loons struck for the only run of the game in the seventh against Alexis Paredes. Designated hitter Brandon Trinkwon led off with a walk, and he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Catcher Spencer Navin was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out. Shortstop Delvis Morales singled through the right side of the infield to plate Trinkwon.

Paredes took the loss, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work. He walked two, fanned one and hit a batter.Trevor Frank threw a scoreless ninth.

Harris picked up his fourth win of the year with three scoreless innings. Mark Pope earned his sixth save with a scoreless ninth inning. Great Lakes has two shutouts on the year.

The Captains had four hits in the game. Third baseman Paul Hendrix had two singles while second baseman Claudio Bautista doubled to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

Lake County and Great Lakes are scheduled to conclude their three game series on Tuesday night. Righty Dace Kime(0-7, 7.08) will start for the Captains and he is set to be opposed by righty Jonathan Martinez (4-5, 3.74) for Great Lakes. First pitch from Classic Park is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
