Jordan Smith delivered the key blow in the eighth when he blasted a three-run, bases-clearing triple to the gap in the left-center field. Smith now has 35 RBI on the season.

Akron starter and Richmond native Will Roberts (9-9) worked seven innings to earn the win. Roberts scattered four hits and allowed just two runs. He walked one and struck out seven. Scoreless relief help came from righthanders Enosil Tejeda and Adam Miller, with one inning apiece.

Toole finished with two hits on the night. Francisco Lindor enjoyed a three-hit night, including a double in the eighth, and newcomer Tim Fedroff laced a pair of RBI singles.

The RubberDucks will begin the second leg of the road trip with the start of a four-game series at Trenton, new Jersey, on Friday night at 7:05.
