The Carolina Mudcats ended a four-game winning streak with a 4-0 loss to the Lynchburg Hillcats Tuesday night. The Mudcats set a franchise record with 16 strikeouts in their second game in a series at Calvin Falwell Field.

The offense faltered with only one hit, the lowest total for the team in the Carolina League.

Joesph Colon (0-2) took the loss for the Mudcats with four runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out a career-high 11 batters and Louis Head and Jeff Johnson combined for three scoreless innings and five strikeouts.

The Lynchburg bullpen stumped the Mudcats with Jarrett Miller (6-5) allowing just five base runners in seven innings--only two to second base.

Carolina was held to a single from shortstop Francisco Lindor in the top of the first. Lynchburg scored first with a single from center fielder Matt Lipka and a double from second baseman Levi Hyams in the bottom of the first.

Neither team made a move offensively until the bottom of the third, where Lynchburg scored the last runs of the game. Three singles and a missed catch error scored shortstop Elmer Reyes and Lipka and another single sent home third baseman Kyle Kubitza.

Lynchburg was able to get a runner on third in the bottom of the fourth but left the Hillcat stranded. Kubitza was ejected in the top of the fifth and left fielder Bo Greenwell was able to make it to second, but Bryson Myles grounded out to put the Hillcats back at bat.

The Hillcats made it to third in the bottom of the eight on a single and a double but were unable to score again.

The Mudcats dropped to 8-10 in the second half, 30-58 overall. Lynchburg improved to 5-11 in the second half and 41-44 overall. The series continues at Lynchburg Wednesday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
