Mahoning Valley Scrappers edged by Jamestown, 2-1
Niles, OH-One night after an offensive explosion that resulted in the Mahoning Valley Scrappers getting a walk off win, it was a pitcher’s duel at Eastwood Field. The Scrappers were only able to manage five hits while falling to the Jamestown Jammers 2-1.
The Jammers struck first when they put a run on the board in the top of 3rd inning. Erik Forgione walked to start the inning and then stole second. With two outs, Jordan Luplow would single to score Forgione for a 1-0 lead.
The Scrappers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th inning. With one out, Steven Patterson singled and stole second. He advanced to third when the throw fromKevin Krause bounced into centerfield. Patteson would then score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1.
The game stayed tied until the top of the 8th inning. Tyler Filliben led off the inning by driving the first pitch of the inning into the Jammers bullpen in leftfield for a solo homerun and a 2-1 lead.
The Scrappers would get the tying run to third with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning before ending the game on a fly out to leftfield.
Casey Shane started for the Scrappers and went 6 strong innings. He allowed just 1 run, earned, on 4 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Justin Garcia (3-2) followed with 2 innings in relief. He allowed 1 run, earned, on 1 hit. He struck out 1. Luke Eubank than threw a scoreless 9th inning. Eubank walked 1 and did not allow a hit,
