State College, PA-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers came into Wednesday night with the longest active win streak in the New York Penn League at 5 wins. After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead it looked like the Scrappers were on their way to their 6th straight win. However, State College rallied late with 3 runs in the 8th inning for a come from behind win, 5-3.

The Scrappers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 2ndinning. Francisco Mejia began the inning with a single to extend his hitting streak to 7 games. Then with 1 out, Taylor Murphyconnected on his 3rd homerun of the season, a 2 run homer to rightfield. Two batters later, Yonathan Mendoza would deliver his 1st homerun of the season, a solo homer to right for a 3-0 lead.

Unfortunaly for Mahoning Valley, the bats would then go silent. The Scrappers would only collect 3 more hits the rest of the game, going in order in 7 of the 9 innings.

Scrappers’ starter Sean Brady was excellent once again. He went 5 innings allowing just 2 hits. He did not allow a run and walked 3 while striking out 3. He left after the 5th inning with the Scrappers leading 3-0.

Ramon Rodriguez was the first pitcher out of the bullpen in relief. He went just 1 inning and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned. Rodriguez gave up 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out none. Luis DeJesus followed Rodriguez in relief. DeJesus worked 1 inning before exiting in the 8th with no outs and 2 runners on base. DeJesus allowed 1 run on no hits. He walked 1 and struck out 2. Luke Eubank (0-2) was the final Scrappers pitcher of the evening. Eubank worked 1 inning and allowed 2 hits and 2 runs, both earned. He walked none and struck out 1 while taking the loss.

The Scrappers will now head to Williamsport for a 7:05 start on Thursday night. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
