Mahoning Valley Scrappers lose to Williamsport Crosscutters, 5-1
Williamsport, PA-After seeing their 5 game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night in State College, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers looked to get back on the winning track in Williamsport. After taking an early 1-0 lead, the Scrappers stranded 9 runners on base and were unable to hold on to the lead and fell to the Williamsport Crosscutters 5-1.
The Scrappers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 2ndinning. Leo Castillo started the inning by singling. After a strikeout, Josh McAdams would pick up his first triple of the season to drive in Castillo.
The Crosscutters would answer back in the bottom of the 3rdinning. With 2 outs and a runner on second, Jiandido Tromp singled to score Chase Harris to tie the game. Following Tromp, Aaron Brown smacked an RBI double to score Tromp and give Williamsport the lead at 2-1.
The Scrappers then saw their offense go cold. The offense only picked up 2 more hits the rest of the game, both coming in the 5th inning. 4 walks and an error would put at least 1 runner on base in the rest of the innings. The Scrappers though were unable to add any more runs as they stranded 9 runners to finish out the game.
Juan Santana (0-5) started for the Scrappers and went 5 innings. He allowed 5 hits and 2 runs while walking none. He struck out 1 while taking the loss. Anthony Vizcaya pitched the final 3 innings. He allowed 2 hits and 3 runs, 2 earned. He walked 2, hit 2, and struck out 3.
