Marson begins rehab assignment in Akron
The Cleveland Indians have announced that catcher Lou Marson will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday night with Double-A Akron. If there are no setbacks, his rehab assignment will be transferred to Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
Marson, 26, has been limited to just three games and five total plate appearances with the Indians this season. He has spent time on the disabled list with a neck strain and a sore right shoulder.
The Indians have up to 20 days to keep him on a rehab assignment before they need to activate him in Cleveland. He does have an option remaining, but since he has had over three years since his first option was used, he would have to be placed on optional waivers before the Indians could option him to the minors. Optional waivers are revocable, and some may recall the Indians did this with Cliff Lee back in 2007 and several other players since.
