With the offseason now in full spring, news will continue to become more and more frequent. In this MLB News and Notes segment, I will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. I also will try to tweet news and rumors as I see them, so feel free to follow me on Twitter: @ajnicholsIBI.

With no major signings or trades occurring on Sunday, there are no top stories. Instead, I will give a rundown of all of the news and notes.

Here are the stories from Sunday, December 8th.

News and Notes

  • Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times wrote an article in which he received quotes and information from former Cleveland and Seattle manager Eric Wedge about dysfunction in the Mariners front office. The article is very intriguing and is certainly worth a look.

  • Chad Jennings of the Journal News reports that the Yankees have begun discussing trades involvingIchiro Suzuki.

  • Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times says re-signing Juan Uribe is at or near the top of the Dodgers wish list.

  • The New York Post's Joel Sherman reports that the Rockies, Giants, Marlins, and Rangers are all interested in signing Michael Morse.

  • Jayson Stark of ESPN says the Nationals have strong interest in left-handed reliever Eric O'Flaherty. Although O'Flaherty will not be ready for Opening Day as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, that has not stopped him from drawing considerable interest from multiple teams.

  • There have been recent reports that the White Sox and Padres have discussed a trade involvingChase Headley. Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reported that in the past, the Padres have asked for pitcher Jose Quintana from Chicago. White Sox GM Rick Hahn has had no desire to move Quintana, however, as the lefty starter still has five years of team control.

Just want to give everyone a heads up - I won't be able to do the News and Rumors piece this week. Unfortunately the Winter Meetings fall during finals week for me this year. If you're looking for MLB news, is a great site.

I am on the Mariner's side for the only reason, I've never seen a worse or more inept manager than eric wedge.

The Mariners article is quite interesting. Good to hear Wedge say some nice things about Shapiro and Antonetti. Makes you wonder who will sign the cheque for Cano, as it appears they all agree to disagree.
The meetings start in earnest today as the snow falls here in Canada. Here's hoping the Tribe get some things going that will at least warm up my day !!!

Should be an interesting day. Last year, it was in the late afternoon/evening on Monday when the Indians pursuit of Shane Victorino became public and intensified things. Up to that point, the Indians offseason was rather dull and exactly like this offseason with nothing but minor league free agent signings.....and then from there it got much wilder.

Also, noteworthy is the fact that it seems likely Masahiro Tanaka will be posted by his Japanese club soon. Tanaka, 25 reportedly has FOR stuff and will virtually be a FA with the new posting system maxing out at $20 M. Tanaka will reportedly then be able to select the club with the highest contract offer. Once, Tanaka is posted it seems the mkt for Jimenez, Santana, and Garza will break loose.

In other news on that front, Baltimore reportedly, will not spend big on a SP. That should rule them out on the above mentioned names.

Also, the NYY have reportedly kicked the tires on Mike Pelphery. There are rumors the Yankees are taking calls on both Ichiro and Brett Gardner. Their mkt could affect the mkt of Tribe OF Bourn, Brantley and Stubbs IF they are available. That said, there are numerous teams shopping for OF help this offseason.
