Zebulon, N.C. – The Carolina Mudcats allowed eight runs in a disastrous seventh inning as the Winston-Salem Dash claimed the finale of weekend series with an 11-4 win on Sunday afternoon. A crowd of 5,968 at Five County Stadium watched the Dash end Carolina’s three-game winning streak at home.

The Mudcats dropped to 17-31 on the season. Winston-Salem avoids the sweep, and improves to 24-23 overall.

Fabio Martinez (0-1) took the loss for Carolina, allowing five runs in his first outing with the Mudcats. The right-hander walked two, allowed two hits and hit a batter in a third-of-an-inning.

Max Peterson (1-3) was the winning pitcher in relief for the Dash. Peterson tossed 2.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits. He walked two, and struck out three.

Entering the seventh inning, the Mudcats staked a 3-2 lead behind great pitching from starter Cody Anderson. The Quincy, Calif., native held the Dash to two runs on six hits over his six innings. He struck out eight, one shy of his career high.

Against Martinez, the Dash loaded the bases on a single, hit batter and a walk. Chris Curley hit a high chop toFrancisco Lindor, but the shortstop had no play. The hit tied the score 3-3, and reloaded the bases. After a walk toJeremy Farrell forced in the go-ahead run, the Mudcats went to Francisco Jimenez.

The left-hander immediately walked in a second run for a 5-3 score. A sacrifice fly to center by Rangel Ravelopushed the Dash advantage to 6-3. A Grant Buckner single scored the fifth run of the inning, and Jimenez was lifted for Michael Goodnight after Martin Medina was hit by a pitch.

Goodnight could not stop the bleeding as a pair of wild pitches and a passed ball led to two more runs, and the Dash lead 10-3 when Joe De Pinto grounded out to short to retire the side.

In all, the Mudcats allowed eight runs in the seventh on three hits, three walks, three hit batters, four wild pitches and a passed ball.

Winston-Salem took the early lead by scoring twice in the third against Anderson. Luigi Rodriguez got the Mudcats on the board with a double to left in the fourth. Joe Sever gave Carolina the lead with run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth.

The Carolina Mudcats host the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Monday, May 27th, with a special 4:00 p.m. first pitch on Memorial Day.
