Frederick, Md. — Bryson Myles extended his franchise-record hitting streak to 22 with a run-producing hit in the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Frederick Keys dropped the Carolina Mudcats 12-4 in the final game of the series at Harry Grove Stadium.

The Mudcats (26-20, 48-68) were sloppy in the loss on Saturday night. The club walked 10 batters, allowed five stolen bases and committed two errors. Frederick improved to 20-26 in the second half and 54-61 overall.

Shawn Morimando (8-11) struggled with his command over his 4.1 innings. The left-hander issued a season-high seven bases on balls and allowed six runs, four earned, with only two hits.

Zach Davies (7-5) hurled seven innings on the other side while holding Carolina to a run on two hits. Davies allowed four walks and struck out five.

The Keys scored two runs in the first on back-to-back groundouts after loading the bases with nobody out. Frederick opened up a 6-0 lead with four runs in the fourth. Jerome Pena highlighted the Keys’ barrage with a two-run triple to the center field wall.

Davies was worked four innings without allowing a hit until Tony Wolters snuck an infield single past second. Tyler Naquin broke up the shutout in the sixth with a solo home run, his ninth of the year.

Frederick ballooned the lead to 11 with a run in the sixth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth before Carolina’s offense came to life. Joey Wendle started the final inning by drawing a walk off reliever Ashur Tolliver. Paddy Matera followed with a double over Glynn Davis’ head in center.

Myles and Wolters followed with back-to-back, run-scoring singles. After Erik Gonzalez rolled into a double play towards second, Jerrud Sabourin lined a hit to left that scored Myles for the final margin.

The Mudcats continue their six-game road trip by starting a three-game series in Potomac Sunday evening. First pitch against the Nationals is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium.
