News on Offense:
Outfielder Bryson Myles re-aggravated his hamstring Saturday night versus Lansing. He ended up going 1-for-2 in the game as the DH. He was replaced by Alex Lavisky. Between innings, Myles could be seen trying to stretch the muscle. For precautionary reasons, Myles has not played since Saturday.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor had a difficult week at the plate. Lindor batted .167, and scored three runs. Very un-Lindor like. For the season, Lindor is batting .301 with three triples, four homeruns, and 11 stolen bases.
Catcher Patric Tolentino has made the most of his limited opportunities. This week, he went 1-for-3 with a strikeout. In four games played this season, Tolentino has batted .375 (3/8) with one homerun, and four RBI. He has mostly been used as the bullpen catcher for the Captains.
Hitter of the Week: Jordan Smith
Smith led the meager Captains offense, hitting .269 (the best of players with over 15 at-bats), drove-in two runs, walked once and struck out three times. Smith has been a constant producer for the Captains all season.
Weekly Batting Stats:
News on Pitching:
Big righty Felix Sterling had a game to forget versus West Michigan. Sterling gave up 12 earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched Wednesday evening. He also gave up two 3-run homeruns. Sterling is considered an Indians top prospect, but if starts like that continue, he’s just another arm.
Many of the Captains in the bullpen had ERA’s of 0.00 this week. Players include: Cole Cook, Francisco Valeria, Grant Sides, and Jeff Johnson. The bullpen has been one of the strengths of the Captains this season.
Lefty Shawn Morimando is off to a great start to his first full professional season. Morimando did not record a decision this week, but he went five solid innings only yielding two hits. For the season, Morimando is 1-0 with a 3.32 ERA in 19 innings pitched. Opposing hitters are hitting only .203 versus him. Shawn came in ranked as the number 49th ranked prospect by the IPI. If he keeps this up, he will move up considerably.
Pitcher of the Week: Joe Colon
Colon is making a name for himself at Lake County. The righty went 0-1 this week, but posted an impressive line of six innings pitched, two hits, two runs (zero earned runs), a walk and two strikeouts. In his lone start, he went five perfect innings and he finally gave up a hit in the sixth.
