News on Offense:

Outfielder Jordan Smith is this week’s recipient of the Indians Minor League Player off the Week award. Jordan is the first player this season to win the award twice (his first win was from May 28th – June 3rd). Smith batted .571 with a home run and eight RBI. He recorded the eight RBI within a three game span. Jordan is currently second in the Midwest League with a .322 batting average.

After an atrocious week at the dish last week, shortstop Francisco Lindor broke out of his funk by hitting .333 with three doubles, a home run, and eight walks. He is hitting .266 for the year with five home runs, 29 RBI and a very good strikeout-to-walk ratio (49 K’s to 42 BB).

Hitter of the Week: Jordan Smith

No surprise here. Smith batted .538 this week, scored five runs, and had 11 RBI. He was also named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week (read above).

News on Pitching:

Closer Jeff Johnson returned to action on Wednesday evening after a brief stint on the disabled list. Johnson pitched one scoreless inning versus Quad Cities. He struck out two and walked one.

Felix Sterling recorded his first career save on Sunday night versus Beloit. Since the All-Star break concluded, Sterling has been used exclusively out of the Captains bullpen.

Pitcher of the Week: Shawn Morimando

It seems if it’s not Joe Colon winning the award, Shawn Morimando wins. Morimando went 1-0 this week. He threw 11 innings (two starts) and gave up three runs (two earned runs). Morimando is 4-2 on the season with a 3.55 ERA in 65 innings pitched.

Ha, yeah, social media kind of is the way to get info out quickly these days. As for Bartolone and Casas, what happened is there was no longer a spot for them with all the new draft signings. The Indians had to move on. Sort of along the lines of what Grant said in the piece yesterday about having to sort releases and opportunities when signing guys.

Casas and bartolone were released? I thought they had showed just enough to buy them the rest of the season. A quick search of the interwebs shows that if I followed tony and lianna on twitter I would already have known this. It may be time for me to look into this whole social media thing.
