News on Offense:
This week, the Captains were pretty much one-to-one on their strikeout to walk ratio (32 walks to 34 strikeouts). That is pretty impressive considering in past weeks the Captains would top out somewhere in the teens with walks. First basemen Jerrud Sabourin lead the team with eight base-on-balls, catcher Alex Lavisky and outfielder Luigi Rodriguez came in second with five walks.
After starting the season at High-A Carolina, Jake Lowery was sent down to the Captains on the 6th. He had a mediocre week, going 5-for-20 (.250) with five runs scored, three RBI and four walks. Jake was batting .222 with two home runs and 25 RBI with Carolina at the time of his demotion.
Leonardo Castillo is slowly creeping toward the Mendoza-line with this week’s performance. Castillo hit .333 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. With that, his average is up to .197.
Hitter of the Week: Todd Hankins
Hankins hit .350 for the week and stole two bases. He has been a clutch hitter all season for manager Dave Wallace’s squad.

News on Pitching:
Joe Colon continues to be the ace of the pitching staff. Colon pitched six innings this week and allowed one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out six. If the season ended today, he would no doubt be my Pitcher of the Year for the Captains.
Manny Carmona had a good week out of the ‘pen. He did not have a decision, but he did go four and a third scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Carmona is 0-0 on the season with a 3.38 ERA.
Felix Sterling has lost it and has obliterated his promising start to the season. This week was more of the same for Felix, as he went five innings out of the bullpen and allowed 10 earned runs. On a good note, he only walked one and struck out six. But Midwest League teams have figured him out. Sterling is currently 3-8 with a 6.53 ERA in 20 games.
Pitcher of the Week: Kyle Petter
Ever since he was sent down, Petter has (almost) been lights out in the ‘pen. Petter went four innings this week, only giving up a run on one hit. In 10.2 innings (since the demotion), he has only allowed two earned runs.
