Perez to the DL, Hagadone recalled (again)
Today the Cleveland Indians announced that they have placed left-handed reliever Rafael Perez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 26th. To fill his spot in the bullpen and on the 25-man roster the Indians have recalled left-handed reliever Nick Hagadone from Triple-A Columbus.
Perez has been diagnosed with a strained left latissimus and suffered the injury during his scoreless inning of work on Wednesday night against Kansas City. He had some left shoulder soreness this spring which sidelined him for some time, so this appears to be a recurrence of that issue. In eight relief appearances this season he is 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA, and in 7.2 innings has allowed five hits, four walks, and has four strikeouts. This is the first time he has been placed on the disabled list in his seven year Major League career. He is eligible to come off the disabled list on May 11th.
Hagadone is back up after being sent out to Columbus on Monday when shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was activated from the bereavement list. In three appearances with the Indians he is 0-0 with a 2.70ERA (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K, .154 AVG), and in with Triple-A Columbus this season he has thrown 7.1 shutout innings and held opposing batters to a .167 batting average.
