Two Clippers that have been a major reason for Columbus' success at the plate this season were responsible for another victory Friday night.

Behind the bats of Cord Phelps and Russ Canzler, the Clippers defeated the Durham Bulls, 4-3. Columbus won for the second night in a row after beating the Bulls, 7-1, Thursday. With the win, Columbus splits its four-game set against Durham.

Phelps and Canzler combined for just two hits, but they couldn't have come at a much better time.

Trailing, 3-2, in the bottom of the eighth frame, Phelps and Canzler hit back-to-back homers to put Columbus in the lead. The Clippers' second baseman smacked his 16th shot of the year to right field to tie the game before the Columbus designated hitter drilled his 19th bomb of the season over the wall in right-center field to put Columbus ahead.

Columbus needed the late-inning rally after allowing Durham to take the lead in the seventh on a single to right field. The Bulls scored two runs in the sixth frame on a solo homer to right and a double into the right-center field gap.

Matt Packer was the pitcher that gave up the Clippers lead. The right-hander pitched five scoreless innings before allowing two runners to cross the plate in the sixth. Packer struck out three and allowed right hits.

The Columbus bullpen allowed Durham to take the lead. Matt Langwell gave up a run in the seventh inning. The right-hander lasted 1 1/3 innings in relief.

Columbus put itself in the lead in the bottom of the fifth after both clubs went scoreless for the first four-and-a-half frames.

Clippers' shortstop Juan Diaz smacked a two-run homer in the button of the fifth to give Columbus a two-run cushion.

Columbus now travels to Louisville for a four-game set before returning back to Huntington Park to face Toledo.
