Plutko paces Lake County Captains to 3-2 walk-off win against Fort Wayne
(Eastlake, OH)- Anthony Santander lined a double down the right field line to drive in the game winning run in walk-off fashion, and the Captains beat the TinCaps 3-2. Santander was down in the count 0-2, and the Captains had the first two runners reach base to start the rally. The Captains improve their home record to 10-11.
Fort Wayne (17-26) scored first, in the top of the opening frame.Dustin Peterson hit a solo homerun to the bleachers in left field and the TinCaps had the 1-0 lead. For Peterson, it was homerun number three on the season.
Claudio Bautista hit his second homerun on the season in the bottom of the third inning. Bautista’s homer also landed in the bleachers and the ballgame was tied at 1-1. Claudio gave the Captains (14-30) the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anthony Santander walked, and Bautista laced a double to left to score Santander. The score was 2-1.
The score was tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Chase Jensen singled and Josh VanMeter singled to left field. Jensen was out on a fielder’s choice at third base. Fernando Perez hit a ground ball that turned into an error and VanMeter scored. The score was all even after six innings.
RHP Adam Plutko (2-1) started for Lake County and did not get a decision. Plutko p[itched seven innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one earned run, one walk and seven strikeouts. Ben Heller (3-0) earned the win after pitching two shutout innings. Heller struck out four.
RHP Kyle Lloyd (1-1) started for Fort Wayne and did not factor into the final decision. Lloyd allowed three hits, two earned runs, one walk and eight strikeouts. Tony Rizzotti (2-2) took the loss. Rizzotti pitched three innings and allowed five hits one earned run, one walk and he fanned four.
The Captains remain home on Tuesday to Eastlake, OH to continue a brief three game home stand. The Fort Wayne TinCaps are in town. In the second game of the series Lake County will start RHP Mitch Brown (0-6, 5.14) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Coby Cowgill (2-1, 5.14). First Pitch is at 1:00 PM from Classic Park.
Tuesday is a special 1 PM start and it is Senior Day presented by Wickliffe County Place. Seniors will receive free coffee throughout the game and can participate in Baseball Bingo. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will also receive a 2014 Magnet Schedule also presented by Wickliffe County Place
