NILES, OH- An offense-less doubleheader yesterday continued into the series finale Tuesday, but the Scrappers did just enough to avoid the sweep in Jamestown as the beat the Jammers by a final score of 2-1.

Tied up at 1-1 in the top of the eighth, Nellie Rodriguez stepped up to the plate and delivered an RBI single off of Jammers reliever Will Kendall that proved to be the game-winner.

Of course, as has been the theme all season, Rodriguez was responsible for both runs the Scrappers scored on the night, as he hit his ninth home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game.

Up to that point, the Scrappers were shutout for 21 straight innings dating back to last night's doubleheader with the Jammers and if it weren't for the bomb by Rodriguez, that streak might have lasted a bit longer.

While Rodriguez was the offensive hero, it was Scrappers starter Cole Sulser who kept the Scrappers in the game.
Sulser had arguably his best start of the season for the Scrappers and kept them in the game throughout his performance.

In six innings, Susler allowed just two hits and one run while striking out a season high 10 batters.

His replacements were pretty good as well.

The combination of Carlos MeloHarold Guerrero and Kerry Doane pitched three innings and allowed just two hits in an otherwise perfect effort.

On the other side, Dovydas Neverauskas kept the Scrappers at bay for five innings, allowing just five hits and one run while striking out five.

His replacements were good, but not as good, as it was reliever Will Kendall who gave up the game's winning run.

The Scrappers return home tomorrow night to face the Auburn Doubledays for the final two home games of the 2013 season.

Kenny Matthews (0-2, 2.87) will toe the rubber against a yet to be determined starter for the Doubledays.

First pitch from Eastwood Field is set for 7:05 p.m.
