ALTOONA, PA – The Akron RubberDucks opened the top of the eighth with a pair of runs to cut the Altoona Curve’s lead to one, but the Curve ended the frame by posting three runs of its own on a Willy Garcia three-run home run to win 7-3 at People’s Natural Gas Field on Thursday.

Three Altoona homers plated five runners, starting with a solo homer from Garcia in the bottom of the third to give Altoona a 1-0 edge. The Curve held a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single from Keon Broxton and would score in five of its last six times at-bat.

In the top of the sixth, Akron’s Justin Toole crossed home on a single off the bat of Tyler Holt, who was responsible for batting in all three of Akron's runs in his first multi-RBI effort of the season, making the score 2-1. In Altoona's half of the inning, Matt Curry clubbed a solo homer over the left field wall, putting the Curve ahead 3-1.

After another runner crossed home for Altoona in the bottom of the seventh to make it 4-1, Akron catcher Charlie Valerio and outfielder Tyler Naquin each slapped singles to reach base in the 8th inning, setting Holt up for a two-run single to center field that cut the deficit to 4-3.

Garcia's two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth brought home Vazquez and Broxton who both reached base on walks and handed Altoona the victory.

Curve starter A.J. Morris (5-0) picked up the win after allowing four hits and one run. Morris recorded all three of the Curve's strikeouts and walked none. Joan Montero pitched 0.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, before Jhonathan Ramos was awarded his first save with 1.1 innings pitched.

RHP Will Roberts (4-5) was handed the loss, despite fanning a season-high eight batters in six innings of work. He allowed seven hits, three runs and walked one. Jordan Cooper and Enosil Tejeda provided one inning each of relief, and allowed two runs apiece. Cooper allowed three hits while Tejeda allowed one, a homer.

The RubberDucks will return to Canal Park Friday night at 6:35 PM, for the start of a four-game, Memorial Day-holiday weekend series against the Reading Fightin’ Phils. RHP Duke von Schamann (1-0, 3.69) will start for Akron, while LHP Hoby Milner is the expected starter for Reading. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM in the Akron area, and also via
