RubberDucks shutout by Senators, 8-0
Akron managed five hits and recorded two errors in the shutout loss to Harrisburg.
HARRISBURG, PA – Harrisburg right-hander A.J. Cole combined with relievers Paolo Espino and Neil Holland to throw a five-hit shutout against the Akron RubberDucks Saturday night, as the Senators cruised to an 8-0 win at Metro Bank Park.
Cole (5-2) retired the first nine batters he faced and went on to work the first five innings, holding the RubberDucks to two hits. Espino took over in the sixth and tossed three scoreless frames before handing it off to Holland, who threw a perfect ninth to complete the whitewash.
The Senators (22-38) scored three times in the second against Akron start Joe Colon. An RBi double by Brian Jeroloman started the scoring. Following a throwing error by Ronny Rodriguez, the Senators registered to more RBI singles by Mike Taylor and Caleb Ramsey to take a 3-0 lead.
Harrisburg broke it open in the fourth, scoring four more against Colon, who was lifted after 3 1/3 innings. It was the first time Colon failed to go five innings since his first start of the season on April 5th. The loss was his first since April 16.
Of the five Akron hits, Tyler Naquin had a pair, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Rodriguez also had a hit, which extended his hitting streak to nine games.
The RubberDucks will play game the third and final game of the series against the Senators on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. RHP Will Roberts (5-6, 4.26) is scheduled to start for the RubberDucks, while LHP Zach Kroenke (0-1, 4.80) is the announced starter for Harrisburg.
