Scrappers finish season with doubleheader split
Jamestown, NY - It was a day of extremes for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Monday in Jamestown. The Scrappers were limited to just three hits in game one of their doubleheader and lost 3-2 on a walk off homerun. In game two, the Scrappers came out and scored twelve runs in the first 4 innings on their way to a 12-3 win to wrap up the season.
In game one, Steven Patterson provided the lone offensive punch for Mahoning Valley. Patterson connected on a solo homerun in the top of the 4th inning to tie the game at 1. The Scrapper would take a lead in the top of the 6th inning when Patterson walked, moved to second on an error, third on a wild pitch, and scored on a passed ball.
Jamestown would get the win in game one when Jordan Luplow connected on a walk-off homerun to start the bottom of the 8th inning.
In Game two, it was all Scrappers all the way. Patterson again connected on a homerun, this time a three run shot. Leo Castillo drove in three more runs to finish the year atop the NYPL RBI column. Taylor Murphy, D’Vone McClure and Francisco Mejia all added RBI as the Scrappers would pound the Jammers, 12-3.
Ramon Rodriguez (3-0) started and got the win in game two. Rodriguez went 5 inning and allowed 2 runs on just 4 hits. He struck out 2. Edward Estrella worked the final 2 innings. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits. He struck out 2.
The Scrappers finish the 2014 season with a 33-44 record.
