Scrappers Lose Game 1, 3-0

On Monday night, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers played game one of the New York Penn League finals and lost to the Staten Island Yankees 3-0. With the loss the Scrappers are now 1-3 all-time against the Yankees in the postseason.

Scrappers starter Brett Brach went the first four innings and gave up two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. Vidal Nuno the pitched the next two inning and gave up two hits and recorded two strikeouts. Jeremy Johnson then pitched the next 2/3 of an inning and gave up one hit while walking one. Nick Kirk then worked the next inning and gave up one run on one hit. Tyler Sturdevant pitched the final 1/3 of an inning and recorded a strikeout.

Staten Island scored first in the bottom of the 1st when Luke Murton lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Jimmy Paredes from third base, making it 1-0 Staten Island The Yankees added to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Kelvin Castro lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that made it 2-0 Yankees. Staten Island scored their final run in the bottom of the 8th when Zoilo Almonte to centerfield making the final score 3-0 Staten Island.

Tuesday, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers will play game two of the New York Penn League Finals against the Staten Island Yankees. Tuesday’s game will be played at Eastwood Field and will start at 7:05 and can be heard on 1390 WNIO and online at
