NILES, OH - Another great game by the Mahoning Valley Scrappers as they played the Aberdeen Ironbirds. The weather looked rocky at the start of the game but the rain held up until the very last inning letting the Scrappers play and win the game.

The Scrappers had some bad weather but that did not stop them from winning against the Ironbirds 5-3.

At the top of the first, second baseman Steven Patterson made a double play catching a ball hit to him and throwing to first getting the runner there out.

The Scrappers defensively were looking strong in the first two innings making three outs quickly. Though the Scrappers were hitting the ball, they weren't hitting them for base hits.

At the top of the third, left fielder Josh McAdams, made the third out with a great catch. Ordomar Valdez hit a nice single with a straight shot on the field between short stop and second.

An amazing double play for the Scrappers with short stop Yonathan Mendoza fielding a ball, tossing it to second baseman Steven Patterson who then turned and threw to first baseman Leo Castillo getting two outs at the top of the fourth. Josh McAdams, at the bottom of the fourth, hit an all out to the Ironbirds right fielder who did not catch the ball. McAdams advanced D'Vone McClure who was running to third where the right fielder threw and made a bad throw enabling McClure to go home giving the Scrappers the lead by one.

Stepping in to relieve Juan Santana on the mound was J.P. Feyereisen at the top of the fifth. The Ironbirds were right back in the game with a runner on third and a hit out to left fielder Josh McAdams. Another hit right down the first base line gives the Ironbirds another run. A wild pitch brings another run for Aberdeen.

At the top of the fifth the score was 3-1. Putting down a successful bunt is what Greg Allen did to get himself to first and he did not stop there. He then used his speed to steal second. Bradley Zimmer steps up to the plate and hits an out of the park home run bringing in Allen and putting two more runs on the scoreboard. Francisco Mejia hit a solid short fly out to left field getting him to first. The score at the bottom of the fifth was all tied up again 3-3.

Manager Greg Hibbard was very proud of his pitchers tonight as they produced what was needed to bring home a victory "Feyereisen did a very nice job. DeJesus did a good job."

At the top of the seventh Luis DeJesus stepped in the relieve J.P. Freyereisen on the mound.

D'Vone McClure at the bottom of the eighth hit a ball between left field and center giving him a single. Josh McAdams hit a ball to short stop and advanced McClure to second and getting a single himself.

Yonathan Mendoza hit a ball out to left field and McClure ran from second to home sliding making it a close call but he was safe bringing in a run for the Scrappers putting them ahead. Bases loaded and Greg Allen takes a hit to the leg for the team bringing in a run the score was 5-3 going into the ninth inning.

At the top of the ninth the Scrappers held their lead. Getting three outs quickly they walked off the field as winners once again.

Manager Ted Kubiak has been nothing but proud of his team for tacking on another win to their season. He commented on their success with "So far it's been good".

The Scrappers are set to play at the Eastwood field in Niles, Ohio July 20, 2014.
