I would take Homer Bailey over Masterson.

I like Masterson a lot too, but Hermie is right. Shields was a bad example. He is incredibly underrated. At this point though, I'd rather have Masterson than Cain, Lester, Sabathia, Dickey, CJ Wilson/Weaver, G Gonzalez, Cueto/Latos, Samardzija.

I would trade Masterson for Shields everyday of the week and twice on Tuesdays. Shields is definitely better than Masterson. Don't get me wrong, really like Masterson and want the Indians to resign him/extend him, but Shields has been better than Masterson every year minus maybe 2010.

Pretty crazy, but from 2007-2013...Shields has only ONCE pitched fewer than 215 innings in a season....pitched "only" 203.1 in 2010. Masterson has only thrown at least 215 innings once in his career (216 in 2011).

Great show guys! About what avenue the Indians may take in regards to trades or signings, I think it will be(and should be) both. The biggest factor in my opinion is Jimenez. I believe that if they sign Jimenez a Masterson trade will abrubtly follow. It's risky with Jimenez, but if they think he can pitch like he did in the 2nd half then he effectively takes the place of Masterson who then is dealt to bolster the minors. In theory it's an excellent way to sustain a competative team. Where the Indians have failed is waiting too long to trade a player and losing leverage(ie. Sabathia and Lee).

Looking back on recent trades, I would be more inclined to take fewer, better prospects than worry about the standard 3 or 4 prospect deals. For example, if Masterson was dealt to the Mets, I would rather Syndergaard and Puello than 4 others in the top 10 from that organization. Just my $.02. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

good show guys but jim and tony i think based on 2011 and 2013 masty is nuber 1 starter on most of the 30 teams minus a few who are great. I would not trade masty for shields for example. and i have said 11million for 14 and betwee 22 and 24 for 15 and 16 for ubaldo and then deal with masty. 63 for 5 might get him but i think closer to 70million. the most salient thing said is we MUST develop our own starting pitchers. i suspect with anderson and the group with him baker et al is a step in the right direction. lets hope it is a leap more than a step.
