Smoke Signals: Hot Stove Report 1: Murphy & the 40-Man
...and the next few weeks of Indians movement
Tony and Jim return to the airwaves with a brand new episode of Smoke Signals, albeit with a different twist than what's been done in the past. After several years of utilizing BlogTalkRadio, Indians Baseball Insider is going to be experimenting with some new software over the offseason, while transitioning the show from the old radio-esque format, to a more podcast friendly format.
What does that mean?
We are contemplating moving our radio show to google hangouts live, which is what we did with this report on Wednesday night.
Without getting too much into the nuts and bolts, Tony and I record the show utilizing Google Hangouts, which then transfers it over to YouTube (yes, you can watch live at both places, and we'll share that with you in the coming months), the downloading it, mixing it, and finally uploading it our Soundcloud page. There, you can of course find all of our backlog of podcasts that we'll be doing, as well as our backlog of other IBI podcasts, such as our Cleveland Sports Insiders stuff that I do with fellow IBI contributers and editors, Michael Hattery and Steve Orbanek.
Please note that you can also download the podcasts from the embedded Soundcloud player, from the Soundcloud website, and from the iTunes podcast page in the itunes store. As of right now, you can goto the itunes page, type "ClevelandSportsInsiders," and all fo the Smoke Signals and CSI podcasts will show up there as well. All of the old Smoke Signals and IBI original programming at BTR can be found at our old Smoke Signals itunes page as well.
Give the new format a try at the bottom of this post, and let us know what you think of the format!
The Cleveland Indians served their first serve during the 2013-2014 Hot Stove season on Tuesday by signing former Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers' outfielder, David Murphy. The Indians signed Murphy to a two-year, $12 million dollar deal, with a third-year option.
On Wednesday, the Indians then finalized their 40-man roster in preparation for the Rule 5 draft by designating Cord Phelps for assignment, then adding relievers Bryan Price and Austin Adams, infielder Eric Gonzalez, first baseman Jesus Aguilar and outfielder Carlos Moncrief.
Tony and Jim go into detail about what the move means, and what the Indians will do moving forward, tackling several IBI pieces from Wednesday, including Jim's Corner of Carnegie and Ontario, and Tony's 40-man roster piece. Remember after listening to Smoke Signals, listen to the backlog of podcasts put out by IBI's Cleveland Sports Insiders crew as well, right here!
Jim is currently the senior editor and Columnist, as well as the host of IBI's weekly online radio shows, Smoke Signals and Cleveland Sports Insiders. You can follow Jim on Twitter @Jim_IBI, or contact him via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
type 'ClevelandSportsInsiders' under the search, and you can see the current lineup. That may change at some point, but it's my account for my other IBI/CSI podcasts that we're utilizing right now...
