The Mahoning Valley Scrappers got off to a quick start but failed to capitalize Saturday against the State-College Spikes.  Geoffrey Davenport, who made his second start of the season, struggled again.  The Scrappers failed to score more than two runs for the fifth straight game as they continue to try to figure out how to score and get on base.  A combination of poor pitching and hitting doomed the Scrappers as they fell to 2-4 on the season with a three game losing streak.

The game was close for most of the game until a strong eighth inning by the Spikes.  The Scrappers closed in on the Spikes in the sixth inning as the score was 3-2.  However, the Spikes five-run eighth-inning was too much to overcome for the Scrappers struggling offense.

Starting pitcher Geoffrey Davenport went four innings, gave up five hits and three earned runs as he had a difficult second outing of the season.  Davenport was relieved by Jacob Lee in the 5th inning.  Lee had an impressive first outing of the season, pitching three innings and only giving up one run.  Following Lee, pitchers Scott Peoples and Jack Wagoner came in in the eighth inning and gave up a combined five earned runs.  This eighth inning was devastating for the Scrappers' offense and bullpen.

The Scrappers' starting lineup of hitters failed to capitalize on multiple opportunities on Saturday night.  Marcus Bradley had his best offensive game of the season going 2 for 5 and scoring one run.

The Scrappers will look to end their three game losing streak Sunday against the State- College Spikes at 6:05 p.m.
