In this MLB News and Notes segment, we will be giving regular reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB.

Here are the storylines from June 3rd:

Tribe News:

  • First baseman Nick Swisher is progressing well in his rehab from his knee injury and is expected to go on a rehab assignment in the minors at some point during the Indians next road trip from June 6-15.
  • Catcher/third baseman Carlos Santana is cleared to return to play from his concussion injury and the plan is to activate him on Friday. First baseman Jesus Aguilar is expected to be optioned out when Santana is added back to the active roster.
  • Right-hander Zach McAllister will make his first rehab start with Low-A Lake County on Wednesday. He is currently on the 15-day disabled list with a sore back and is eligible to come off on June 6th.

News and Notes:

  • Rays outfielder Will Myers is expected to miss at least two months with a stress fracture to his right wrist. He has struggled at the plate this season, but this is a big blow to a team that needs his productive bat in the middle of their lineup.
  • The Phillies have signed right-hander Jason Marquis to a minor league deal. He underwent Tommy Johnsurgery last July and is looking to make a comeback at 35 years old.
  • The Rockies are set to promote one of their top pitching prospects right-hander Eddie Butler on Friday against the Dodgers.
  • Rangers pitcher Matt Harrison underwent disc fusion surgery on Tuesday and will not pitch again this season.
  • Phillies lefty Jeremy Horst cleared outright waivers and accepted his assignment to Triple-A.
  • The Royals have released 41-year old right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko. He pitched 47.1 innings and had a 3.80 ERA in Triple-A prior to the release.
  • The Rockies have signed right-hander Mike McClendon and assigned him to Triple-A.
  • The Cubs have designated righty Jose Veras for assignment.
  • The Yankees have claimed lefty Wade LeBlanc off of waivers from the Angels.

You call also make the same case for Swisher.

I agree Bob I keep asking has anyone noticed Santana not playing?

Aguilar will be back in Columbus on Friday provided Santana is activated as expected. I do agree that it is pointless to bring a guy up like him and not play him, but Aviles and Chisenhall have played well of late and deserve to be in there. It's unfortunate, though Aguilar hasn't done much when he has gotten a chance to show he deserves more playing time.

Is all this bench sitting stunting Aguillars development? Wouldn't he better off In Columbus playing on a regular basis, since this is his first full season at AAA?

Who needs that automatic out back in the lineup. The team is doing better without him.
