Tribe News

  • Indians catcher Matt Treanor has retired. He was on the Triple-A Columbus roster but had not played this season because of a hamstring injury. With the birth of his first child nearing and dealing with another injury, he elected to hang up his spikes rather than move through a lengthy rehab.

Other News and Notes

  • According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Giants are interested in locking up closer Sergio Romo but both sides likely wil not talk about a contract extension in season. Talks may kick in late in the season of very shortly after the season like they did with Hunter Pence and Tim Lincecum last year.
  • According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, he says the Braves are not considering releasing infielder Dan Uggla who is still owed $24 million on his contract.
  • The Padres have designated right-handed reliever Hector Ambriz for assignment and recalled right-handed pitcherKevin Quackenbush.
  • The Rangers have designated Scott Baker and Josh Wilson for assignment and have added top prospects Luis Sardinas and Roughned Odor.
  • The Yankees have come to an agreement to sign lefty Nik Turley to a minor league deal.
  • The Angels have designated Buddy Boshers for assignment and added Brooks Raley off waivers.

Treanor may not have had much of a major league career, but he pulled in about $5 million in salary the past 15 or so years.

Not a bad consolation prize.

Just FYI from Cincy...For the Reds flagship station today reported that the Reds signed to minor league contracts former Indians Shelley Duncan and Lou Marson.
