Welcome to The Transaction Rundown:  Follow the Roster Hole edition!

The Roster Hole is an elusive creature with it's origins in Nick Hagadone's injury and subsequent assignment to the Clippers' Disqualified List.  The lack of a countermove in Columbus to fill Scott Barnes' roster spot after his Sunday call-up to the Big Club led to the creation of the Roster Hole.  The Roster Hole migrated to Five County Stadium on Wednesday with the lack of a countermove for Shawn Armstrong's call-up to Akron, but was also seen around the Arena District that day as well (a byproduct of the AAA/AA All-Star Break delaying roster moves at those levels - including Tyler Sturdevant's promotion to Columbus). As of press time, the Roster Hole seems to be "holed" up in Zeubulon.  Where will the Roster Hole go next?  Stay tuned for next week's column (or just go to the "Transactions" tab and scroll down to "2012" each day) to find out!

By the way. yes, there is a Roster Hole in Goodyear and three or four (depending on how you count the Levon Washington paper move) in Mahoning Valley, but those are Short-Season Roster Holes (spacius rosterus rookieballius), a far more common creature than their Full-Season cousins (spacius rosterus minorleagius).

In non Roster Hole-related news, Toru Murata and Matt Packer are off their respective DLs (neither of them Akron's) and are plying their trade at the corner of Main and State, Luis Morel is in Mahoning Valley and beginning his acclimation to pitching in front of a crowd, and Chris Ray and Dale Dickerson are no longer in the org.

Yeah, I mentioned way back in April that Washington probably would be out for the rest of the year. If he comes back this year the likely course of action will be to have him play in the Arizona League for a few rehab games and then go to Instructs to make up lost time.

Washington is likely out for the season. I would expect to see him in the winter league...
