This season, on the IPI...

Well, opening day is here. Not just for the big leagues, but the minors as well as not only do the Indians start the season today, but their minor league affiliates in Columbus, Akron and Lake County get things going as well (Carolina opens up play tomorrow).

With that in mind I wanted to quickly recap everything that is coming this season on the IPI and when and where articles will post:

Team pages: Each affiliate has their own team page which can be accessed by rolling your mouse over the “Teams” tab located in the navigation bar just below the site banner. Just about any article for the corresponding team will be listed here, and in some team specific articles (game stories) will only be listed on these team pages.

Breaking news: You may notice a new "News" tab to the top left of the article area (just below the header). This will be a page that any breaking news items will post and will not show on the main page (a select few will show on the main page). These updates will include transactions, trade rumors, signings, awards, and so on.

Game stories: In previous years we just provided one large group of game recaps in one post for all the teams that played that previous night. This year we will be posting actual game stories for each team to their respective team page only (they will not show on the homepage or in the slider), and the game stories will be much more in depth and home games will include quotes from players and the manager. Also new this year: game stories for the Arizona League Indians when they start play in late June.

Scoreboard: A site scoreboard is being completed and should be added in the coming days. The plan is to have this displayed in the top right area of the site below the banner and tabs (where the STO Minor Happenings banner shows) and each night/morning it will update with the results from the previous night’s games with links to the game stories for each game.

Around the Farm: This will be a daily feature for the homepage and will post every day very early in the morning. This will recap and highlight the notable performances from the previous day’s games at every affiliate. One to two players will be highlighted with a paragraph writeup and then about 3-5 players from each affiliate will be listed with their stats and include a brief comment.

Notebooks: Site notebooks will start posting to the site next Monday and will be a weekly feature that goes a little more in depth and recaps the week that was for each affiliate. The notebooks will have player news, transaction updates, stat highlights, and lots more. The schedule for the notebooks are as follows: Monday – Columbus, Tuesday – Akron, Wednesday – Carolina, and Thursday – Lake County. When short season leagues start up in June notebooks for Mahoning Valley (Friday) and the AZL Indians (Saturday) will also post weekly.

Site articles: Pretty much every day there will be a general article posted to the site. Be it an opinion piece on something regarding the Indians or minor leagues, or a player feature on a player.  “Tribe Happenings” will continue to post every Sunday and recap the week that was for the Cleveland Indians. Other weekly features will also start popping up throughout the season.

The Transaction Rundown: Every Saturday we will post a report recapping all of the transactions throughout the organization.

Premium Features:

Minor Happenings: This is the article that started it all. Originally a piece that recapped the Indians system on a weekly basis, the article will be broken up into two pieces and post two times a week on Tuesday and Thursday to allow for MORE information than was provided before. This will be a premium article and only be accessible to paid subscribers and will include all kinds of quotes from club executives, coaches, and so on, as well as firsthand information on injuries, changes/improvements players are making, etc that you will not find anywhere else.

Draft Updates/Analysis: Draft day capsules will not require a subscription, but post draft articles with quotes and comments from scouts, club executives, and players will require a premium subscription. Once the draft concludes, I plan to have several updates each week with information on the signing process, scouting reports on players, and more. For those that have followed these in the past, these draft reports are very detailed….and they will be even more detailed going forward.

Three Up, Three Down: This is a weekly premium piece that will look at three prospects in the organization that had a good week and three that struggled. Insight and information gained from numerous discussions from people involved with the evaluation process of these players both internally and externally will be used. This feature will post every Monday.

IPI Stock Watch: This is a new premium feature that will take a look at a select group of prospects each week (roughly 10-15 of them) and break down their value and if it is improving or declining and why. This feature will post every Wednesday.

The Radar Report: This is another new premium feature being added to the site which will track and list pitch velocities for Indians minor leaguers.  I will see over 70 games this season and will see a few games a week, which I will pool together radar gun readings for the pitchers I see in this report each week. This feature will post every Friday.

Pros & Cons: A new premium feature that will break down a player by looking at his positives and negatives as a prospect. Insight and information gained from personal observations as well as in discussions with internal and external evaluators will be used for this report. This piece will post begin posting in the fall when the season ends as a way to briefly analyze some players in advance of the next prospect ranking, though a few may post throughout the season.

Video & Radio:

IPI on Site: This is a new online video interview show that will post to the site two to four times a month, hopefully on a weekly basis. The plan is to have this show air on Sunday evenings.

Smoke Signals: The show made its debut for the 2012 season on Tuesday and will run for the duration of the season discussing all the important news and developments for the Cleveland Indians from the minors to the big leagues. The show will air every week on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00PM EST.

Minor League Magazine: This is the Indians’ cable TV network’s weekly half hour TV show that they air every Tuesday evening. With their permission, I will continue to post it to the site, and it should post every Wednesday or Thursday. The first show airs sometime at the end of this month.

As you can see, there is a lot of stuff coming on the site this year. It is going to be a fun ride this year following the developments of so many players and the big league team. Thanks for reading!
