Akron, OH – Giovanny Urshela lined a game-winning single to center field in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday night, lifting the Aeros to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Binghamton Mets at Canal Park.

After falling behind in the count, 0-2, against Armanda Rodriguez (1-2), Urshela ripped a solid single up the middle to score Tyler Holt from third base and win the game. It was Urshela’s second hit of the game, and his 42nd RBI of the season.

The Aeros (63-68) have won both games of the series against the Eastern Division champion Mets, and three straight overall. Akron has gone on a roll over the last week, winning seven of the last eight games.

The Aeros now have five walk-off wins at Canal Park this season. It was the first game-winning hit for Urshela.

Holt led off the 11th against Rodriguez with a walk, and advanced to third on Jake Lowery’s sharp single to center. Ronny Rodriguez then struck out, but Urshela nailed his opportunity to start the post-game fireworks.

Shawn Armstrong (2-3) earned the win for the Aeros. He faced only two hitters in the top of the 11th after replacing Kyle Blair, who left the game with an apparent arm injury in his Double-A debut. After completing a walk that was charged to Blair, Armstrong fanned Joe Bonfe to send the game to the bottom of the 11th.

The Aeros led 3-2 until the top of the 8th when Binghamton’s Wilfredo Tovar laced an RBI single off Brett Brach to tie the game, 3-3. Brach worked 7 1/3 innings, his longest start of the season, and gave up three runs on four hits.

In the first inning, the Aeros took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Jesus Aguilar and a sacrifice fly by Holt. It was Aguilar’s 99th RBI. They increased the lead to 3-0 in the third on a sacrifice bunt by Holt that scored Carlos Moncrief from third.

Akron is now 6-6 in extra-inning games this year.

The Aeros and Mets will play game three of the series on Saturday night at 7:05. LHP Darin Gorski (4-1, 1.97) is the expected starter for the B-Mets, while Indians RHP Brett Myers (1-1, 3.24) will make a one-inning major league rehab start for the Aeros.
