It was sort of a busy day on Wednesday for the Indians. Well, ex-Indians that is.

The Angels have signed shortstop Omar Vizquel to be their roving infield instructor. He retired after last season and has had an interest in getting into coaching. It is not known how much - if any - interest the Indians may have had in bringing Vizquel back into the organization in a similar role.  It is important to note that such a role is a good way for a former player to break into coaching as they have a lot of freedom and are not tied to one specific team all season. Also, most importantly, he resides in Seattle and probably wanted to stay on the west coast as much as possible to avoid too much travel, and the Angels afford that opportunity with over half the teams in their organization on the west coast.

The Yankees are reportedly moving close to a deal with designated hitter Travis Hafner. The Indians have expressed some interest in bringing the former Tribe slugger back to Cleveland, but the Yankees interest is greater. He will probably end up signing a one year deal for somewhere between $2 and $4 million.

Also, first baseman/designated hitter Ryan Garko signed a minor league deal with the Rockies. He last played in the big leagues in 2010 with the Rangers before going to Korea in 2011. Last season he opened the year playing independent ball for Long Island in the Atlantic League before the Rays signed him to a minor league contract in the middle of the season and assigned him to Double-A Montgomery.
