COMSTOCK PARK, MI – The West Michigan Whitecaps washed over the Lake County Captains with a pair of home runs in a 6-2 win on Saturday night.

Right-hander Jake Sisco (4-11, 4.83) tossed two innings for the Captains in opposition to Whitecaps’ starter Edgar De La Rosa (8-6, 5.87).

Both starters threw a pair of zeroes on the board until the Captains scored two in the third inning. Left fielder Nick Hamilton started the inning with a single to shortstop and took second on a balk. With one out, shortstop Dorssys Paulino sent a double to left to plate Hamilton. Catcher Jeremy Lucas followed suit with a ground rule double to score Paulino, giving the Captains the 2-0 lead.

The Whitecaps stormed back immediately in their share of the inning as they took the lead. Centerfielder Connor Harrell and shortstop David Gonzalez lined a pair of consecutive singles before Sisco issued a walk to load the bases. Sisco’s command seemed to slip as he walked two more batters to force home two runs before he was pulled and replaced with Luis DeJesus. Sisco’s final line posted at two innings pitched, surrendering three runs on two hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Third baseman Jason King greeted DeJesus with a sacrifice fly to score one more, but an inning-ending double-play prevented any further damage.

One more run touched home in the fourth inning as first baseman Jeff Holm sent his ninth long ball of the year over the right field wall for the 4-2 advantage.

The home run issue continued for DeJesus in the eighth inning as King singled and scored on a home run by designated hitter Lance Durham, giving West Michigan the 6-2 lead.

That was all the Whitecaps bullpen needed as it turned to four relievers to hold the score. De La Rosa remained in the game for five innings, issuing two runs on six hits and four strikeouts.

DeJesus pitched the remainder of the game for the Captains, tossing six innings in which he yielded three runs on six hits, one walk, nine strikeouts and a pair of home runs.

Saturday’s loss moves the Captains to 53-75 overall while West Michigan advances to 62-67. Next, the two teams will engage in a double-header to complete a game delayed by rain on July 8 in Eastlake. Luis Morel (5-4, 5.09) will start the first game for the Captains against Whitecaps’ right-hander Jake Thompson (3-3, 3.10). Luis Lugo (0-0, 0.00) will make his second start for the Captains in the second game against West Michigan righty Calvin Drummond (2-2, 2.59).
